Joining a real estate team is just like starting a job. You will essentially “plug in” to another agent’s business to operate your real estate career. You will become a member of a team and usually have a specialized role doing one specific part of the job rather than trying to be everything to everyone like a single agent does.
There are A LOT of benefits to being on a real estate team. Here’s a few pros and a few cons as you think about your career in this industry.
Pros:
- You will have immediate training and ongoing training to master skills faster
- You will have little to no expenses
- You will have access to leads, referrals, and other opportunities that takes years and years to cultivate as a single agent through marketing and prospecting systems
- You will have a support system of other team members doing their roles making your life easier and more balanced
- You have a mentor or sales manager when things get tough – and they will!
- You will have structure and focus on one specialized part of the industry (on most teams)
- Coffee perks! Ok not all teams have this but we like to throw in the occasional coffee run to keep our energy up
Cons:
- You will not have your own brand – you will be a part of someone else’s vision and company
- You will not have day to day flexibility. You will work according to the company/team’s standards and expectations – including being in office at certain times
- You will have to get along with others and trust them to do their job. This can be difficult for some personality types!
- I am sure there are some others and I might be biased. The point is a team is not right for everyone but if you and the team are the right fit for one another the pros will far outweigh the cons.
As you can see it’s much like working anywhere. The business belongs to the team owner and you will have to adhere to someone else’s guidelines and expectations. But that’s exactly why so many people choose to join a team. You can spend years and even decades building a successful real estate business or you can plug into someone else’s who has already made all of the mistakes and figured it out for you!
If you got into real estate for flexibility and to brand yourself, a team environment might not be for you. If you got into real estate to be the best agent you can be and make a great income – a team can help you get on that trajectory faster than trying to figure it all out on your own.
We are always looking for talent to join the team. Check out our open job opportunities and apply today!
