Are you ready to fall in love with real estate?
This month is the annual Keller Williams conference called Family Reunion. Thousands of agents get together to learn about the state of the company, the vision for the company, and attend various breakout sessions. It’s like attending college and I love it. This year we are headed to Dallas Texas this week and my first event is on February 14th.
Of course it’s only appropriate that last year as the event fell around the same holiday, there seemed to be a theme to fall in love with real estate.
I have been selling homes for 13 years and I love that every day is different. There are new challenges and things to learn every day. And while I truly feel like a real estate expert and can handle it all, the industry is ever changing. As an agent we have to keep up with the latest laws, technologies and market shifts all while managing clients and actually selling homes.
It can be a lot to manage as a single agent. As a result over the years I realized that the team model has much more to love. It’s a model that allows agents and staff to be specialists in one area of the field.
How to become an expert?
While it takes most 10 years to become an expert according to 10,000 hours rule, you can move this ball forward much more quickly if you are focused on only a few activities. There are hundreds of responsibilities of a single agent and to be an “expert” in all things will take many years of experience in all of those activities.
What if you could hyper focus your activities to 5 things? Doing those 5 things over and over again might just put you on the path to expert status much faster. Joining a team can allow you to do just that. Instead of hacking together a few deals for the first few years of your career (as most agents do), you could do 30-40 deals in your first year. Within 3 years you may be ready for a new opportunity to learn more and become an expert in another area of the field. This is only possible because you moved your trajectory from 10 years to 3.
